Special Event Sales

Position Summary:
This individual is responsible for supporting the planning, managing and execution of executive and business unit meetings, conferences and special events for ServiceMaster and its business units. Reporting to the VP of Operations, the successful candidate will serve as a event sales for all aspects of corporate meetings and special events, while partnering with the appropriate internal clients to ensure the meeting/event goals are met. He/she will help develop, promote and use a set of meeting planning tools and processes, to ensure consistently superior service, cost-effective delivery and the best possible experience for attendees.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with site selection, site inspections and negotiation of all contracts as required for meetings, conferences and special events to ensure compliance with customer requirements and company standards.
• Consult and partner with business units and communication leads to develop specific programs and events. Follow methodology for selecting meeting sites, facilities, destinations and related activities/amenities.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with preferred vendors to ensure best possible quality and advantageous pricing.
• Support event-related logistics, including registration, coordination of hotel arrangements, function space, food and beverage, transportation, activities and any offsite venues.
• Adhere to logistical procedures, and promote the use of technology to streamline registration, pre-event communication and post-event follow up.
• Design and execute best-in-class processes that are built from qualitative and quantitative measurement of all major meetings and events.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• A minimum of 2-5 years of meeting/event planning experience, preferably in a corporate environment.
• Solid understanding of organizational communications and its impact on a business.
• Travel and/or hospitality industry desirable.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Experience in planning large meetings/events for 25 to 2,500 attendees in both U.S. and global venues.
• Highly-developed organizational and time management skills with ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks/projects.
• Strong problem solving, project management and decision making skills.
• Strong motivator who can maintain a positive, “can do” attitude and superb client relationships, even under pressure.
• Team player, with extensive experience in a self-directed work environment and ability to influence senior executives.
• Strong financial knowledge, with superb negotiation skills and ability to operate within a strict budget.
• Excellent communication (writing and verbal) and interpersonal skills and proven track record as both a high-level strategist and accomplished implementer in challenging situations.
• Strong service orientation, commitment to quality and ability to achieve results by working with others.
• Able to travel, including some nights and weekends, required.
• Consummate professional with the organizational savvy and negotiation skills to interact and influence at the most senior levels of the organization and maintain superb client relations.
• History of responding to rapidly changing conditions with agility and imagination.
• Excellent organizational skills, including ability to multitask, organize, prioritize and follow through on commitments.
• Ability to maintain discretion and manage confidential information.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and excellent working knowledge of meeting production/technologies.
